It’s her plan - to bring the Wives to the Green Place - which creates the chase scenario which dominates the plot. Then there is something of a shift toward Furiosa. The movie begins squarely with Max as the Protagonist. * There is an interesting Protagonist pivot. patriarchy dynamic pretty much at the thematic center of the story. The narrative canvas is spectacular, however we are provided specific characters with identifiable and relatable concerns which draws us into their lives. * The characters traffic in universal human emotions: Fear, Hope, Despair, Anger, etc. Each comes across as a distinct individual with their own wants and needs, even secondary characters. Introduced as a likable young police officer, Max Rockatansky gradually unravels throughout the movie. The low-budget thriller pits him against a gang of murderous bikers who Max picks off one-by-one after they kill his family. Released in 1979, the original Mad Max is a dark revenge story that sees Mel Gibson’s rookie cop lose his wife, his child, and eventually his mind. One fan theory suggests Fury Road takes place between the original Mad Max and The Road Warrior, which explains the title character’s transformation between movies. ![]()
